From the explosion of red and pink everywhere, it's almost as if we have been in February since the 2nd of January. Nevertheless, we are officially here, Happy New Month, Queens!
Historically, February tends to add just a hint of pressure to us women, no matter what your relationship status is. The high from the new year into the month of love can be a bit overwhelming. If you’re still in new year, new me mode, kudos on your self-discipline, sis. For the rest of us who cancelled the subscription to that new me mantra on the 15th of January and just got use to writing 2019 on documents, this is for you. It's not too late to make a commitment or re-commit to being the better version of you. Celebrating yourself is important. This month is a better time than any to do so.
Here are the five things you can do to get back on track to being the better version of you.
1. Write Her Story
No need to go deep here, just write. Get a piece of paper or journal or open a fresh note in the Notes app on your phone and get to writing or typing. What do you want to accomplish today? This week? This month? What type of ice cream do you like? Who is your favorite singer? What has been on your mind? How do you really feel? What lyrics are on your mind? Just write and basque in the freedom of seeing the thoughts that are weighing you down or making you anxious, out of your mind. You will be surprised by how quickly you discover something new about yourself.
2. Say Stop. Say Thank-you
Negative self talk can creep up from time to time. When this happens, get into the habit of saying stop - out loud. Negativity serves no place in your mind or your life. After verbally stopping the thought as it presents itself, replace the thought with positive goals and words of gratitude for what you consider big and small things in your life.
3. Set Healthy Boundaries
Whether it's with friends or family, your mobile device or the jollof rice you can't say no to, setting healthy boundaries is essential to your well-being. Don't be afraid to say no or not right now to the things, people or situations that overwhelm you. Learning to manage expectations for whatever has power over your well-being can greatly influence your mental, emotional and physical health. You come first. Remember that.
Now, in no way are we encouraging you to spend money that you don't have, but treating yourself to something nice and affordable can be a good thing. Shopping (in moderation) can be a source of mental therapy. As people shop, they’re naturally visualizing how they’ll use the products they’re considering. As a result, its likely that you may visualize the 2.0 version of yourself.
5. Talk it out
See #1, but replace write with talk. Here's the catch though, you don’t have to talk to anyone in particular- that someone can be yourself. It's not as crazy as you may think. It's actually quite therapeutic.
These are just five things to do, there's a host of other ways to get back to the real Queen within. All you need is a little Marie Kondo style cleaning of the soul to get back on track. You deserve to make yourself a priority, sis. You're worthy.
